SAP Readiness Check: The first step toward S/4HANA

The SAP Readiness Check report should be the first step that SAP end customers take to evaluate their path to S/4HANA. It gives them a better overview of the type of project they need to tackle, as well as the innovations they can take advantage of.

We are all familiar with the arrival of SAP’s new product, its intelligent suite SAP S/4HANA, which replaces the ERP R/3 suite. Similarly, there has been much discussion about the path to follow to successfully implement the new product and how to approach this type of project. There are two main project approaches: first, there is the Greenfield approach, which involves reimplementing business processes in a new, clean installation of S/4HANA, taking advantage of the opportunity to redesign, restructure, and innovate current processes that, supported by the Intelligent Suite, will bring great benefits to companies.

On the other hand, we have the Brownfield approach, which consists of converting the current version of ERP R/3 to S/4HANA, maintaining historical data, general processes already implemented, and the current implementation in general, adjusting only what is necessary due to the new simplified processes of S/4HANA. For this reason, the conversion to S/4HANA is often misinterpreted as a purely technical project, which is a concept far removed from reality.

But how can this path be navigated from the perspective of SAP end-user companies?

SAP itself recognizes that this is a difficult decision for SAP users and therefore proposes the following steps to follow this path:

Datos

On this occasion, we will address the SAP Readiness Check report, as we believe that this report provides us with a fairly comprehensive overview of the changes we would face when moving to S/4HANA.

First, the report provides an assessment of the simplified processes that would apply to our current ERP configuration and that will undoubtedly require an analysis of the company’s internal processes. Likewise, the report provides an assessment of the compatibility of currently installed add-ons and those that are definitely not compatible, for which the options of replacing or removing such functionalities must be validated.

The report also provides information on the expected infrastructure sizing when moving to S/4HANA, ABAP developments (Z’s) that are likely to be changed or affected by the new architecture, and the Fiori applications recommended for implementation based on the evaluation of current functionalities, among other aspects.

For all of the above reasons, the SAP Readiness Check report is a great tool that SAP end customers can use to build their path to S/4HANA and, in turn, have the foundations, arguments, and tools to tackle the project both within their companies and with external suppliers.

Ask your SAP partners to implement the report based on the note. SAP 2758146 “Setting up the SAP Readiness Check 2.0 for SAP S/4HANA” and analyze this report from a functional and process perspective, both with your internal users and external functional consultants.
