Migration from Pyramid Consulting to the AWS cloud

Today, Pyramid Consulting has its Service Desk system up and running on the AWS Cloud, offering flexible computing capacity to handle high workloads.

After 15 years of experience providing technology consulting services across different industries, Pyramid Consulting has become a strategic partner for all companies that use SAP as their business management system. However, due to the latest IT trends and innovations around the world, Pyramid Consulting has decided to adjust its technology roadmap to begin the journey toward using cloud technologies. To this end, it has established a partner relationship with Amazon Web Services. This is intended to provide comprehensive services to its clients, covering all the layers required by a system: infrastructure, operating system, database, and application.

Pyramid Consulting, as a SAP systems management and administration company, has naturally implemented a Service Desk system for all ticket management with its clients. This system originally ran with great effort in an on-premise environment at the company’s facilities. After identifying on numerous occasions that the system’s performance, availability, and stability were being affected by the age of the server hosting it, the growing number of clients using the system, and connectivity limitations, Pyramid Consulting made the decision to migrate its system to a cloud environment.

Initially, a series of reviews of the Service Desk system aligned to the AWS Well-Architected Framework were generated, led by one of our Infrastructure Architects, where the best practices to be used in terms of security, reliability, system performance, operability and costs were identified, thus incrementally building the finally defined architecture (See image 1), where AWS services were used such as an Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instance in which the application was installed and a computing capacity was given according to the R5 type family that commits an SLA of 99.99% availability, as well as Elastic Block Store (EBS) configuring a storage of all the system data using high-performance SSD disks with an SLA of 99.999% availability, in the same way to cover the security of the system, a complete parameterization of Public / Private Subnets, Route Tables, Security Groups, user management through Identity and Access Management (IAM) and secure connections by Using a site-to-site VPN.

The system needed to be migrated from its current on-premise environment. CloudEndure, the AWS tool for migrating any type of workload to Amazon Web Services, was used for this. This process was successful and exceeded expectations, providing information in record time.

Migración de datos

Today, Pyramid Consulting has its Service Desk system up and running in the AWS Cloud. It now has flexible computing capacity to handle high workload peaks, higher security standards, and constant monitoring and control over its infrastructure, among other benefits. Finally, the on-premise servers were shut down, which helped eliminate maintenance costs. Combined with the savings achieved with the AWS infrastructure, this represents a monthly savings of nearly 15%.
